This was our second time at Calhoun C.I., and what a warm welcome we received! A good many of the men had seen us back in the spring with The Plunders. It was bittersweet to see them again, as it meant they were still incarcerated. They were an amazing audience, and we enjoyed a great afternoon of appreciation and fellowship!
Halloween took a back seat to what we had going on this day! We performed for and ministered to about 60 men who showed us great respect and gratitude! We had a little fun with the assistant warden on the way out... he really liked Michael's hat!
It means so much to us to receive encouragement from staff at the facilities! We have encountered our fair share of employees who seem very unhappy, but for the most part, we have dealt with kind, helpful people who seem to be great at what they do in such a difficult environment! We pray for them regularly, and encourage you to do the same!
This was our very first prison show without our friends and mentors, The Plunders! They sure did teach us right, though, so we weren't scared!
We quickly gained a real appreciation for this facility, as the assistant warden told us about the programs they offer to these men. Almost this whole population of inmates has five years or less to serve before they are released. While inside, they can learn a myriad of trades, so when they get out, they can start earning a living and contributing to society! Not to mention, they will not have to resort to their old habits and possibly their old illegal ways of making money!
