We did two shows for the men at ACI West and two for the men at ACI East. On both days we had many more attendees at the second show of the day. Word must have gotten around!
This was our first re-entry facility. That means the men are getting ready to re-enter society. We can approach this kind of place a little differently; we hit hard and heavy on how much we need strong, sober men out here to help guide our children. They seem very receptive to our message... we're praying they carry it with them and give their best efforts to fix the brokenness they encounter.
You haven't LIVED until you've had 100 inmates sing happy birthday to you!! Patty turned 60 years old on this day, and she cried like a baby when they broke out in song to her! Region I Lead Chaplain Michael Vosbrink was kind enough to film us, and to say this about our ministry:
“What a dynamic duo! Boo Radley did a fantastic job at Gulf C .I.
It was my first exposure to their music and I was hooked.
Solid vocals, amazing guitar playing, powerful stories.
I commend this ministry to any facility who would let them come.
I’ve been doing Chaplain work for 20 years and Boo Radley
is among the best ministries I have experienced.”
We had a wonderful afternoon at Calhoun performing for and preaching to about 100 men. They were super attentive and super appreciative!
A few of the men came up to us after the show telling us that they were members of the Praise Team there at Calhoun. We were happy to encourage them in their musical endeavors!
What an experience this was!! We did two shows at NWFRC on this date, and what powerful, energized shows they were! Many, many of the men who attended yesterday's shows came back. We were so very thankful to be able to share The Gospel with them, and to hear our friends The Plunders brining forth the same powerful Message!
Words can hardly express how grateful we are to God for leading us to Mark and Suzan Mason, known in prison circles as The Plunders!! How EXCITING to be able to bring this dream to life! We did two shows at NWFRC this day, each attended by about 150 men. We told them that we (Boo Radley) are the only band that doesn't mind it when you 'BOO." We all took a lunch break between shows. As we walked back into the room, The Plunders were on stage. A huge bunch of guys stood up at their seats as we walked up the aisle toward the stage and they started cheering "BOOOOOO!" We can honestly say this was one of the most moving moments of our careers!
To the left you can see a card that a few of the men made for The Plunders and for us during the lunch break. Talk about a prized possesssion!
